TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Tonie Morgan found out her WNBA fate on Monday night as the point guard was selected with the second pick of the third round, 32nd overall, in the WNBA Draft.<\/p>\n
Family and friends at her draft party exploded with excitement when her name popped up on the screen. Morgan just happy that it\u2019s official: she\u2019s going to the WNBA.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrowing up you dream for this moment and I\u2019m just excited that it happened,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m ready for Chicago, let\u2019s go.\u201d<\/p>\n
Morgan played on the hardwood at Florida High\u2019s Bob Albertson Gym just four years ago. The Tallahassee native is grateful for her roots, many of whom attended Morgan\u2019s party to support her on draft night.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m glad that everyone was here to support me and they\u2019re all happy for me,\u201d said Morgan. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing to know that you have this amazing village behind you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Through playing with Georgia Tech for three years and then Kentucky for her senior year, Morgan has developed her game to be a pass-first guard. She ranked second in the nation this season in assists per game with 7.9.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a unique story and I\u2019m glad it\u2019s mine,\u201d she said<\/p>\n
So it\u2019s onto Chicago and it looks to be a good fit for Morgan. The Sky have three guards well into the back half of their careers. The Kentucky senior is excited for her next opportunity, but is focused on the present.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t wait for this next journey but I\u2019ll take it one day at a time,\u201d said Morgan. \u201cI still have to take it day by day and still have to graduate and just focus on training camp and making my impact noticable.\u201d<\/p>\n
