{"id":230975,"date":"2026-04-14T09:29:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T09:29:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/230975\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T09:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T09:29:13","slug":"florida-reveals-new-course-launching-in-high-schools-next-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/230975\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida reveals new course launching in high schools next year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">TALLAHASSEE, Fla. \u2013 With the current school year soon coming to an end, the Florida Department of Education has revealed a new course that will soon launch in schools across the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to a memo released by the FDOE, the course \u2014 an advanced high school U.S. History class \u2014 comes courtesy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/1537\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/1537\">a law passed in 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">More specifically, the law requires the State Board of Education to develop advanced general education courses to help students earn college credits while still attending high school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">[BELOW: Florida education commissioner says AP Psychology can be taught if age appropriate]<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In this case, the memo states that the new history course will provide college credit for any postsecondary civic literacy requirement and the following two general education classes:<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">State officials said they will be launching a pilot program for the \u201cFlorida Advanced Course and Test (FACT): U.S. History\u201d course starting in the 2026-2027 academic year at select schools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">And after the FDOE receives feedback, the course is expected to roll out statewide starting in the 2027-2028 school year, the memo reveals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">This represents the second \u201cFACT\u201d course to come out of the FDOE so far.
