\u201cNo Commerce Without Community.\u201d This is one of the core values listed on the website of the Betsy<\/a>, the elegant oasis of culture and calm nestled in one of the most bustling stretches of Ocean Drive<\/a> on Miami Beach<\/a>. And though the declaration is specifically about the legendary boutique hotel\u2019s philanthropic efforts \u2014 the Betsy not only partners with many local and national non-profits, but the hotel\u2019s ownership family are founders of Zara\u2019s Center, \u201can after-school safe haven for AIDS-impacted youth in Zimbabwe\u201d \u2014 it could very well describe the hotel\u2019s upcoming sagely curated, world-class free spring jazz<\/a> programming with a welcome emphasis on Miami\u2019s rich, unique musical history.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition to its nine art galleries, the Betsy books live jazz in its Piano Bar nightly, hosting\u00a0\u201cmore than 33,000 hours of live music performances\u00a0over the past decade\u201d \u2014 and that cultivated expertise and connection to the music shines through in the spring program.<\/p>\n

Program Highlights<\/p>\n

A multi-week Overtown Jazz Legacy Series featuring celebrated jazz pianist Danny Mixon \u2014 renowned for his work with Charles Mingus, Betty Carter, Pharoah Sanders, and others \u2014 alongside acclaimed vocalist\/violinist\u00a0Nicole Yarling\u00a0(April 11); Miami\u2019s \u201cFirst Lady of Jazz\u201d Carole Ann Taylor, a fixture of Miami\u2019s jazz community for more than half a century (April 18; May 16); and three-time Grammy<\/a>-nominated saxophonist\u00a0Melton Mustafa Jr. (April 25).\u00a0<\/p>\n

An International Jazz Day extravaganza on Thursday, April 30, at The Piano Bar starring Yarling and the Diaspora Vibe Afrobeat All-Stars.<\/p>\n

The Ocean Drive Association Promenade Concert Series, a curated free weekly outdoor music program on Sundays in Lummus Park curated by The Besty. This incredible lineup includes Grammy-winning pianist Tal Cohen (March 22); Grammy-winning flutist\u00a0Nestor Torres performing alongside a quartet (April 5); and the aforementioned Mustafa Jr. (April 26).<\/p>\n

Finally, there is Piano Masters & New Voices, co-curated by Cohen and pianist Martin Bejerano, designed to connect \u201crising talent from the University of Miami\u2019s Frost School of Music Jazz Program with established performers.\u201d (Every Tuesday through May 26.)<\/p>\n
