COCOA BEACH, Fla. \u2013 Two visitors to Central Florida were killed due to a rip current off Cocoa Beach on Tuesday afternoon, according to the fire department.<\/p>\n
In a release, fire officials said they responded to the water rescue emergency near 4th Street South around 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival, first responders discovered four victims in the water and immediately jumped into action, beginning life-saving measures for two of them, the release shows.<\/p>\n

Those two victims \u2014 a 42-year-old man from Connecticut, and a 34-year-old woman from Ohio \u2014 were taken to the hospital for further care, though they were ultimately pronounced dead, fire officials explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cPreliminary information indicates the incident was related to a rip current,\u201d the release reads. \u201cWe extend our deepest condolences to the victims\u2019 families and loved ones, and our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic event.\u201d<\/p>\n
