We are committed to seeing this case through with the professionalism and integrity our community expects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The disgraced doctor, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/29\/us-news\/florida-doctor-thomas-j-shakvovksy-has-license-suspended-after-removing-liver-from-william-bryan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">whose medical license was yanked following the fatal screw up<\/a>, allegedly pushed a reluctant Bryan to undergo the surgery when he checked into Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital in Miramar Beach with lower left abdominal pain.<\/p>\n<p>Bryan, visiting the Florida Panhandle with his wife, was admitted for further testing after doctors suspected a spleen abnormality but declined \u201csurgical intervention,\u201d wishing instead to go back to his home in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.<\/p>\n<p>Chest radiograph of Mr. Bryan. Zarzaur Law<\/p>\n<p>Shaknovsky allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ostomy.org\/ileostomy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">urged the patient to have his spleen removed<\/a>, a procedure in which Bryan eventually relented, according to an emergency suspension order viewed by The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the doomed operation, the reckless doctor allegedly converted to an open procedure, citing poor visibility in Bryan\u2019s colon and abdomen and went on to snip and staple vessels around the liver, triggering a severe hemorrhage and sending the patient into cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n<p>William Bryan, 70, suffered a hemorrhage and cardiac arrest during the doomed procedure. Family handout<\/p>\n<p>While staff scrambled to revive the patient, Shaknovsky continued dissecting the abdomen and did not call for assistance as he removed the 4.6-pound liver.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe staff looked at the readily identifiable liver on the table and were shocked when Dr. Shaknovsky told them it was the spleen,\u201d a witness in the operating room said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne staff member \u2018felt sick to their stomach.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bryan was pronounced dead while the doctor insisted he died of a splenic artery aneurysm. Zarzaur Law<\/p>\n<p>Bryan was pronounced dead and the bungling doctor insisted he died of a splenic artery aneurysm.<\/p>\n<p>Shaknovsky allegedly requested staff to label the liver as a \u201cspleen\u201d and send it to pathology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe staff in the room felt that Dr. Shaknovsky was attempting to convince them that this is what occurred, even though they witnessed something different,\u201d the order said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bryan, visiting the Florida Panhandle with his wife, checked into the hospital with lower abdominal pain.
