Across campus,\u00a0FAMU students\u00a0feel\u00a0like love songs\u00a0have lost their spark and have\u00a0become\u00a0more lustful,\u00a0lacking\u00a0the actual feeling of love.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
While many new-age love songs lean more toward surface-level desire, there are timeless classics that continue to define what real love feels like. Songs like \u201cLet\u2019s Stay Together\u201d by Al Green capture a depth of commitment and gratitude that never goes out of style.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cRibbon in the Sky\u201d\u00a0by\u00a0Stevie Wonder paints love, while \u201cEndless Love\u201d by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie reminds us of devotion that stands the test of time.\u00a0\u00a0Even modern classics like \u201cAll of Me\u201d by John Legend\u00a0feel honest.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Trends may shift, but songs that speak to lasting love\u00a0and commitment will always have a place in people\u2019s hearts.\u00a0Nydia Roman,\u00a0senior\u00a0business administration student, feels like\u00a0love songs have completely lost their touch.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMen\u00a0actually use\u00a0to love,\u201d\u00a0Roman said. \u201cMen use to talk\u00a0about their\u00a0wives, and\u00a0how they lost the love of their lives\u00a0\u2026 it was\u00a0just different. I\u00a0listen to older songs and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0just like dang they\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0make music like this anymore.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
When thinking of old love\u00a0songs,\u00a0Roman\u00a0thinks\u00a0of\u00a0artists\u00a0like Charlie Wilson\u00a0who produced the hit \u201cCharlie, Last Name Wilson\u201d\u00a0and Anthony Hamilton\u00a0with the hit \u201cThe Point of it All.\u201d\u00a0Roman said that\u00a0Ambr\u00e9\u00a0is an artist today that makes love songs that has the same vibe of\u00a0these artists.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s the first artist that I\u2019ve connected with, and I feel like ooh, I feel this, I hear what you\u2019re saying,\u201d Roman said.\u00a0\u201cI love that it\u2019s very pure and I love that for her, for me.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
With\u00a0TikTok on\u00a0the\u00a0rise,\u00a0Kendyl\u00a0Meeks,\u00a0a sophomore\u00a0food\u00a0science\u00a0student,\u00a0feels\u00a0like love songs are not as\u00a0popular, and lyrics may not hold as much weight as they use to.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s\u00a0a lot more vulgar music that gets more attention, especially if\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0catchy.\u00a0But I think love songs are still there,\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0still meaningful,\u201d Meeks said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Takeira Nettles, senior public relations student,\u00a0says that in the early\u00a02000s love music felt more\u00a0like they\u00a0actually\u00a0loved\u00a0women rather than lusting over them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cBack in the early 2000s you would see a guy sit and cry his heart out, now\u00a0they are like\u00a0\u2018break up with your girlfriend,\u2019\u201d Nettles said.\u00a0\u201cI feel like now that has affected our generation.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0scared\u00a0to talk about\u00a0love, because\u00a0these love songs\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0do\u00a0that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nettles feels that Sasha\u00a0Keable is an artist that gives her the same vibe as the early 2000s.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cShe actually just dropped her album,\u00a0ACT II, I\u2019ve\u00a0been hooked on it, and I feel like that gives me that taste of 2000s R&B, just pouring her love out about a past relationship,\u201d\u00a0she\u00a0said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
