The Buccaneers on Wednesday confirmed that they have had \u201cpreliminary meetings with officials from the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County and the Tampa Sports Authority to discuss plans for a major renovation of Raymond James Stadium<\/a>,\u201d according to Rick Stroud of the TAMPA BAY TIMES. The meetings signal the \u201cfirst steps toward a significant upgrade\u201d of the 29-year-old stadium. The estimated cost of the project was not exchanged. TSA President & CEO Eric Hart called the initial meeting with the Bucs \u201ca productive step.\u201d However, he \u201coffered no estimated cost for a renovation of Raymond James or where that money would come from.\u201d Stroud notes the timing of the meetings with the Bucs is \u201cnot coincidental,\u201d as they come at the \u201csame time the Rays are trying to find public<\/a> and private financing for at least half\u201d of a proposed $2.3B ballpark<\/a> on Hillsborough College\u2019s Dale Mabry campus<\/a>. The Bucs have less than 10 months (on or before Jan. 31, 2027) to \u201cextend their lease for five more years at the stadium that sits just across the street from where the Rays hope to construct their ballpark.\u201d The last renovation to Raymond James came in 2016-18 and cost $160M, \u201cmost of it coming from the Glazer family that owns the Bucs.\u201d The TSA, which is funded by Hillsborough County, contributed $29M.
