JENSEN BEACH, Fla. \u2014 A West Palm Beach man accused of robbing a Chase Bank in Jensen Beach<\/a> got away with more than $22,000 before deputies stopped his SUV on Interstate 95, according to a newly released arrest report.<\/p>\n

Martin County investigators say Gregory Lee Kilgore, 63, robbed the Chase branch at 2998 N.W. Federal Highway on April 11, taking $22,050 in cash before leaving in a black Jeep Compass. Deputies later stopped a Jeep matching the description near the 95-mile marker on southbound I-95.<\/p>\n

The arrest report adds new detail about what happened inside the bank. Investigators say Kilgore approached a teller while holding a cellphone up to his face, which the teller believed he was using to conceal part of his appearance. The teller told deputies Kilgore said, \u201cMa\u2019am this is a robbery,\u201d ordered her to hand over money from her drawers and warned her not to hit the button under the counter. She told investigators she never saw a weapon, but said he kept one hand in his pocket throughout the encounter.<\/p>\n

According to the report, surveillance video showed the suspect wearing sunglasses, a red hat with the letter \u201cP,\u201d a black Nike shirt, jean shorts and black Nike sneakers with a white swoosh. Investigators say deputies later found shoes matching that description inside the Jeep, along with a large amount of cash in a rear seat pocket. During a pat-down, deputies also found 19 $50 bills on Kilgore, the report states.<\/p>\n

The report says fixed surveillance cameras tracked the Jeep traveling through Martin County around the time of the robbery, placing it south of the mall on Federal Highway at 8:54 a.m., then passing the mall entrance again at 9:10 a.m. The Chase branch is located between those two points, according to investigators.<\/p>\n

Kilgore denied robbing the bank when questioned by investigators, according to the report. He told deputies he had been trying to visit a former employer in Jensen Beach, then planned to go to Jupiter to visit a friend. But investigators say the teller\u2019s account, bank surveillance footage, witness descriptions and evidence recovered from the SUV led to his arrest.<\/p>\n

Kilgore was booked on a charge of robbery without a firearm or weapon. The arrest report says no bond was set.<\/p>\n

Court records reveal Kilgore has an extensive criminal record spanning decades in Ohio and Florida, including prior federal convictions for armed and unarmed bank robbery, aggravated robbery, and assault.<\/p>\n
