Michelle Marchante                                                                            mmarchante@miamiherald.com                                                                                        <\/p>\n<p>Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago presented Migoya, 75, with the key as applause broke out in the packed commission chambers after declaring April 14, 2026, as \u201cCarlos Migoya Day\u201d in the City Beautiful. Lago described Migoya as a longtime mentor and friend who \u201cstepped into one of the most challenging roles of public health care and transformed it with vision, discipline and with your heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Migoya, a retired banker, has served as Jackson\u2019s CEO for nearly 15 years and is credited with saving the hospital system from financial ruin. He\u2019s expected to step down at the end of May, though he will remain in an advisory role for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/health-care\/article314505901.html\">Jackson\u2019s new CEO, David Zambrana.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour legacy is not one that you built. It\u2019s in the people you\u2019ve influenced, the leaders you shaped, and the lives you\u2019ve made better,\u201d said Lago.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson has grown under Migoya\u2019s leadership into one of the largest public health systems in the country and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/health-care\/article314921579.html\">will soon open one of the largest ERs<\/a> in the nation. Prior to his Jackson CEO gig, Migoya briefly worked as the city manager of Miami, navigating it out of its own budget crisis.
