CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)\u2014New speed limit and curve warning signs are up along Gator Circle East following two crashes just six days apart last month, but neighbors say it’s not enough.<\/p>\n
For people living along this curve, the danger feels constant. Nicky Swift lives right next to one of the new signs but says speeding hasn’t changed.<\/p>\n
“You can sit here and watch right now as they come by,” Swift said.<\/p>\n
She says one driver even crashed through her yard, leaving behind damage.<\/p>\n
“They left a fender in the road right outside of our driveway, and our yard messed up,” Swift said.<\/p>\n
That’s separate from the two crashes in March, just six days apart. 12-year-old Dylan Artilles says he and his mom remember one of them.<\/p>\n
They saw a white car crash into his neighbor’s palm trees, just feet from their home. Artilles says drivers have hit homes twice and mailboxes three times.<\/p>\n

He says he has to be extra careful while getting off his school bus.<\/p>\n
“I would think, what if I was walking home from the bus stop or one of my friends\u2026 that’d be kind of tragic,” Artilles said.<\/p>\n
In response to the crashes, the city says it installed the new signs on April 8. Swift says she’s seen police trying to help.<\/p>\n
“We’ve had cops sit here. I’ve seen them myself leaving for work in the morning, coming home in the afternoon. They are trying,” Swift said.<\/p>\n
But she believes it may take more than signs to fix the problem.<\/p>\n
“They could put big speed bumps before you go into the curb,” Swift said.<\/p>\n
Neighbors say until drivers actually slow down, they don’t believe new signs will stop another crash.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"CAPE CORAL, Fla.
