{"id":236106,"date":"2026-04-17T20:50:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T20:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/236106\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T20:50:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T20:50:09","slug":"top-broward-football-standouts-honored-at-piccolo-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/236106\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Broward football standouts honored at Piccolo Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Piccolo.jpeg\"   width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" title=\"\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                Dave Brousseau<\/p>\n<p>            Special to the Miami Herald<\/p>\n<p>The 51st annual Brian Piccolo Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame was held Thursday at the War Memorial Auditorium honoring 40 high school football athletes for their outstanding achievements on and off the field.<\/p>\n<p>The overall 2025-26 winners were Lorenzo Lopez of Cypress Bay, Sariyah Lewis of Fort Lauderdale, Zachary Moss of Pine Crest and Johnny DiSalvatore III of St. Thomas Aquinas.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis became the first female award winner in the history of the prestigious event. She was a BCAA All-Star, playing defensive end for the Flying L\u2019s and was also part of the school\u2019s track and field team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never thought playing football would come true,\u201d Lewis said. \u201c I was very scary for me. I kept persevering with the things I\u2019ve wanted to do. I never stopped believing in myself. This is special because it took a lot for me to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DiSalvatore, who kicked a record five field goals in the Raiders Class 5A state championship victory over Lakeland, became the first-place kicker to be named MVP in an FHSAA state title game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means the world with all the work we put in throughout the year,\u201d said DiSalvatore, who will attend Wagner College. \u201cWe\u2019ve been stamping the legacy at St. Thomas, a place with the tradition and legacy that we have. It\u2019s something special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was also named Rivals National First Team All-American.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez played four seasons for the Lightning and was a Miami Herald Silver Knight Award Nominee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis feels amazing because I feel I left no stone unturned with all the thing I\u2019ve worked on,\u201d Lopez said. \u201cI feel blessed for being recognizing for everything I\u2019ve done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moss was unable to attend Thursday\u2019s ceremony as he was playing for the Panthers\u2019 boys lacrosse district game against St. Andrew\u2019s on Thursday. He will be attending Vanderbilt University.
