ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 A St. Petersburg couple has been arrested after their 1-month-old, who had “multiple” injuries, died at the hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gabriella Daniels, 22, and Ashton Kurant, 21, are both facing aggravated child abuse and child neglect, police say.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Documents state Daniels called 911 on Thursday morning after finding the baby boy unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, where he later died. Further investigation revealed that the 1-month-old had bruises along his hairline, as well as scratches and lacerations throughout his body.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest affidavit, Daniels and Kurant were the infant’s “sole caregivers” and did not enroll in any daycare services. They both reportedly gave investigators “inconsistent statements” on the baby’s feeding and changing routines.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Records also show the Department of Children and Families (DCF) was involved with the family and claimed that the child was clear of injuries as of April 10 \u2014 nearly a week before his death.<\/p>\n
Additional charges could be filed based on the results from the child’s autopsy, police say.<\/p>\n
