(WSVN) &#8211; Hours after President Donald Trump announced that<a href=\"https:\/\/wsvn.com\/news\/us-world\/iran-reopens-strait-of-hormuz-but-trump-says-blockade-on-iranian-ships-and-ports-will-stay-in-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> Iran would fully open the Strait of Hormuz<\/a>, people at the pump across South Florida were curious about when gas prices would drop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know when gas prices are high, something around the world has gone wrong,\u201d said a resident.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, officials in Iran and here in the US announced the Strait of Hormuz is back open to all commercial vessels. This announcement comes as the countries are in the middle of a <a href=\"https:\/\/wsvn.com\/news\/us-world\/us-israel-and-iran-agree-to-a-2-week-ceasefire-but-much-remains-unclear-and-some-attacks-continue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">two-week ceasefire<\/a> agreed to on April 7.<\/p>\n<p>On Truth Social, Trump wrote:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Strait of Hormuz is completely open and ready for business and full passage, but <a href=\"https:\/\/wsvn.com\/news\/us-world\/trump-says-us-military-has-blockaded-iranian-ports-to-pressure-tehran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the naval blockade<\/a> will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran, only, until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100% complete. This process should go very quickly, in that most of the points are already negotiated. Thank you for your attention to this matter!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reports indicate that Iranian officials said continuing the naval blockade violates the ceasefire agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that both sides are saying the Straits are open, that\u2019s a good sign to all of us and obviously a good sign that the market is like and hopefully this is the beginning to the end of the war,\u201d said an expert.<\/p>\n<p>According to AAA, the national average is $4.09. That\u2019s down from last week\u2019s national average of $4.16.<\/p>\n<p>In Florida, the numbers aren\u2019t down by much yet. The current average is nearly the same as it was a week ago.<\/p>\n<p>AAA said drivers need to be patient as prices won\u2019t drop overnight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019re going to see some gas stations passing along those lower prices sooner than others, depending on when they get their next shipment of fuel,\u201d said an AAA employee. \u201cOil prices have tumbled about 10 percent or about $10 a barrel. That can directly lead to about a 25-cent swing in prices at the pump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump also posted on social media:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIran has agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again. It will no longer be used as a weapon against the world!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When those pumping gas at different stations in Fort Lauderdale were asked what it would take to see prices coming down, one resident said: \u201cA long ceasefire and maybe a change in government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Sunbeam Television Corp.
