David Stuart Stinson was slapped with a handful of charges, including shooting a deadly missile at a vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, in the early morning shooting outside of Clearwater Sunday.<\/p>\n
Stinson, who turned 42 the day after the alleged shooting, had ordered the rideshare to pick him up at his sister\u2019s home in Oldsmar and bring him to his house in Largo, when the conversation inside the car turned violent, according to an arrest affidavit viewed by The Post.<\/p>\n

The conversation between the two men turned heated when the subject of religion and politics came up and Stinson allegedly learned information about his driver.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe defendant discovered during his conversation with the victim that he was an immigrant and told the victim to go back to his country,\u201d the court document states.<\/p>\n
When the argument became too heated, the driver pulled over, opened Stinson\u2019s door and demanded the unwanted passenger get out after he allegedly became \u201cmore aggressive with his demeanor.\u201d<\/p>\n
The driver began to drive off, leaving Stinson on the side of Belleair Road in a residential neighborhood, when he pulled out a gun and allegedly fired three shots at the fleeing Uber, the affidavit states.<\/p>\n
The hail of bullets struck the back of the car and the passenger seat, but the driver was not hit.<\/p>\n
The unidentified man told police that he \u201cwas fearful that (Stinson) wanted to harm him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stinson allegedly opened fire near the intersection on Belleair Road and Robin Hood Lane around 3:20 a.m. April 12, 2026. Google Maps<\/p>\n
Police responded and tracked Stinson down to his home, roughly two miles away.<\/p>\n
During the initial interaction with Pinellas County sheriff\u2019s deputies, Stinson had allegedly handed a brown handbag to his wife in an attempt to conceal it from the police.<\/p>\n
Officials recovered the bag and discovered a Glock-19 handgun and ammo believed to be connected to the shooting.<\/p>\n
During his arrest, Stinson told his wife, \u201cI\u2019ll see you in a few days,\u201d and asked if she got the bag, not knowing police had confiscated it as evidence.<\/p>\n

During an interview with detectives after being read his rights, Stinson admitted to arguing with the driver over politics and religion but denied having a firearm on him or even shooting at the driver, police reported.<\/p>\n
The report indicates a firearm was confiscated and Stinson was believed to be under the influence of alcohol.<\/p>\n
Police could not determine if any other drugs played a role in the shooting.<\/p>\n
Stinson was also hit with tampering with physical evidence and discharging a firearm in public.<\/p>\n
He was released from the Pinellas County Jail after he paid his bond.<\/p>\n
The Pinellas County Court placed a Temporary Extreme Risk Protection Order\u00a0on Stinson, requiring him to surrender his firearms after his threatening actions against the Uber driver. <\/p>\n
