TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Attorneys and the family of a South Carolina father killed in a shooting on Florida State University\u2019s campus last year released a statement Friday, observing the one-year anniversary of the tragedy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tiru Chabba<\/a>, 45, was one of two men<\/a> killed last year on April 17 after suspected gunman Phoenix Ikner opened fire on FSU\u2019s campus. Several others were left injured.<\/p>\n

In the statement shared by the South Carolina-based attorneys representing Chabba\u2019s family, the family reflected on their loss, calling the day \u201ca profoundly difficult day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are some wounds which never heal. This is one of those and as we remember that horrible moment one year ago when a gunman ripped a hole in our family, it hurts as much as ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family remembered Chabba as \u201ca loving husband, a doting father and a beloved son, brother and friend\u201d and said they will remain strong in their commitment not just to Chabba\u2019s memory, but \u201cto the full and unflinching pursuit of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will always mourn his loss. Still, there is comfort like this when we see that we are not alone in this loss and that Tiru\u2019s memory is still held and shared in our community, the campus of Florida State University and beyond. That support and shared grief means a great deal to us and we are deeply thankful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just moments before Chabba\u2019s life was claimed, the South Carolina father was on FSU\u2019s campus the day of the shooting, working as an employee for a campus vendor, according to the attorneys.<\/p>\n

Chabba is survived by two children.<\/p>\n
