SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 St. Pete police are investigating after they say a homeowner shot a man who attempted to break into a home.<\/p>\n
It happened just after midnight Saturday when a 46-year-old man crashed his car in the Historic Kenwood area. Following the crash, the man ran from the vehicle and entered the backyard of a home on 2nd Avenue N.<\/p>\n
The suspect then attempted to break into the home through a rear entrance. The homeowner was awakened by the noise and ordered the man to leave.<\/p>\n
As the suspect continued his attempts to enter the home, the homeowner shot at him.<\/p>\n
Police were dispatched to the area in response to gunshots being fired. Once on scene they found the suspect with a gunshot wound.<\/p>\n
He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The suspect is not being identified at this time pending next of kin notification.<\/p>\n
There were three adults and one child inside the home at the time of the incident. Police say no one else was injured.<\/p>\n
It’s unclear what caused the suspect to crash his car.<\/p>\n
Police say the homeowner is not facing any charges at this time.
