{"id":237913,"date":"2026-04-19T14:52:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-19T14:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/237913\/"},"modified":"2026-04-19T14:52:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T14:52:08","slug":"burglary-suspect-shoots-police-dog-during-pursuit-in-fort-lauderdale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/237913\/","title":{"rendered":"Burglary suspect shoots police dog during pursuit in Fort Lauderdale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Published:\u00a0April 19, 2026 at 10:32 AM<\/p>\n<p>Fire rescue takes burglary suspect to Broward Health Medical Center<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  \u2014 A police dog was recovering on Sunday after surviving a shooting while on duty in Fort Lauderdale. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The shooter was a burglary suspect police officers responded to shortly before 7:25 p.m. on Saturday in the Lauderdale Manors neighborhood, according to police. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Jerome Lytle, who lives in the area, said he heard the Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office helicopter circling on Saturday night over his home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThere was like maybe five or six vehicles, up the road, there on the intersection, they had it blocked off, so no one could go through,\u201d Lytle said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The suspect was also injured when another police dog helped officers arrest him in the area of Northwest 16 Court and 15 Terrace, according to police. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A SWAT team responded, and fire rescue personnel took the suspect to the Broward Health Medical Center.
