One of our favorite local galleries and most-loved St. Pete artists have partnered for a must-see exhibition this April. Famed local artist and muralist Rhys Meatyard just debuted Ceremony, a solo show on display at The Werk Gallery (2210 1st Ave S) through the end of April.<\/p>\n

The exhibition opened last week to rave reviews, which is certainly no surprise. Meatyard\u2019s incredible work already adorns the back wall at Werk Gallery, painted as part of the 2023 SHINE Mural Fest, and the artist referred to Ceremony as \u201chonestly the best thing I\u2019ve ever done.\u201d It\u2019s a high bar, and it\u2019s one attendees were thrilled to see cleared.<\/p>\n

The theme of the solo show is the balance of love and grief, and choosing hope in a time of despair. It\u2019s largely inspired by Victor Frankl, the holocaust survivor and author of \u201cMan\u2019s Search for Meaning,\u201d with a more than sizeable splash of Aragorn and lessons learned by experience in The Lord of the Rings. The end result is a show that mixes depth and sorrow with beauty and joy, while driving home the belief that all can, and must, coexist. <\/p>\n

If you missed opening night, you still have plenty of time to catch the show, and perhaps find a piece for your own collection. Ceremony is on view during all operating hours at The Werk Gallery for the rest of the month, and we highly recommend making a stop in on your weekend hours spent in the Grand Central District.<\/p>\n

If you really want to dive deep into the work and passion behind Ceremony, join the Rhys Meatyard artist talk on Saturday, April 19, at 3 pm as part of the Second Saturday Art Walk. Admission is free. Plus, it gives you an excuse to explore The Werk Gallery.<\/p>\n

Since opening in 2023, The Werk Gallery has become a star in St. Pete. As you enter, the art gallery is home to a curated list of rotating exhibits featuring an amazing array of local artists. As you walk through the gallery, the space opens up into The Object Lab, a one-of-a-kind art and gift store offering a deep selection of beautiful pieces, from greeting cards, oil paintings and jewelry, to antique pottery, altered vintage clothing and even a sticker bar.<\/p>\n

Between it all, The Werk has become a hotspot in St. Pete for all things art and antiques. The gallery has played host to a tremendous lineup of exhibitions, and has plenty in store for the rest of 2026.<\/p>\n

While the gallery space is what draws many people in for the first time, it\u2019s The Object Lab that can make you lose hours to browsing. Whether admiring artwork, sniffing candles, or trying on hand-painted tees, the shop is packed full of delights for any taste or inclination.<\/p>\n

You can find vintage scarves and signed ephemera on the same wall as luxury handbags and altered vintage jackets created by Spenny Lane. You\u2019ll find pottery dating back 800 years to the Ming Dynasty on a shelf next to pottery only a few weeks old created by a local artist.<\/p>\n

In the same place, you can get a quirky $4 sticker or a funny gift card, or spring for high end art pieces or jewelry. The job they have done stocking The Object Lab is outstanding, making it feel like you\u2019re walking around a colorful combination of a museum, gift shop, and arts and crafts store. It\u2019s the perfect spot for holiday shopping, even if you\u2019re buying for yourself.<\/p>\n
