{"id":239006,"date":"2026-04-20T15:05:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:05:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/239006\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T15:05:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:05:07","slug":"amtrak-cancels-auto-train-florida-passenger-trains-amid-jacksonville-area-brush-fires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/239006\/","title":{"rendered":"Amtrak cancels Auto Train, Florida passenger trains amid Jacksonville-area brush fires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amtrak.com\/tickets\/train-status.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.amtrak.com\/tickets\/train-status.html\">Amtrak has canceled its train routes in and out of Florida<\/a> because of two large brush fires in the northeast part of the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Auto Train and Silver Meteor trains have both been canceled because of two brush fires in Clay and Putnam counties that are near each other.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The fire in Clay County has burned some 1,7000 acres and remained uncontained, according to the<a href=\"https:\/\/ffs.fireresponse.com\/public\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/ffs.fireresponse.com\/public\"> Florida Forest Service. <\/a>It\u2019s in the southeastern corner of the county. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2026\/04\/20\/large-wildfires-near-clay-putnam-county-line-prompt-evacuations-amtrak-delays-as-dry-windy-conditions-cause-concern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2026\/04\/20\/large-wildfires-near-clay-putnam-county-line-prompt-evacuations-amtrak-delays-as-dry-windy-conditions-cause-concern\/\">news partners at WJXT in Jacksonville<\/a>, Clay County officials believe sparks from a train started that fire. <\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A large wildfire is affecting two FFS districts at 2,700 acres along the eastern border of Putnam &amp; Clay counties.<br \/>North in Clay County, the Crews Road Fire is 1,700 acres with 0% containment.<br \/>South in Putnam County, the Railroad Complex Fire is 1,000 acres and 5% containment. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YiDXxRYmDS\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/YiDXxRYmDS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Florida Forest Service (@FLForestService) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FLForestService\/status\/2046234402280128967?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 20, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The other fire is nearby in the northeastern corner of Putnam County, according to FFS. It\u2019s 1,000 acres in size and only 5% contained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Because of the fires, Amtrak has canceled the Auto Train, which runs between Sanford and Lorton, Va. <\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">ALERT: Due to track closure stemming from a large brush fire. Auto Trains 52 and 53 which departed Sanford (SFA)\/Lorton (LOR) on 4\/19, are canceled. Customers will be returned back to their points or origins. Train 98 which is scheduled to depart Miami (MIA) on 4\/20, is canceled between Miami (MIA) and Jacksonville (JAX) with bus transportation provided.
