{"id":239074,"date":"2026-04-20T16:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T16:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/239074\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T16:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T16:08:09","slug":"k-9-shot-by-burglary-suspect-in-fort-lauderdale-continues-to-recover-nbc-6-south-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/239074\/","title":{"rendered":"K-9 shot by burglary suspect in Fort Lauderdale continues to recover \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Fort Lauderdale police K-9 is recovering after being shot by a burglary suspect over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The K-9, named Appie, is scheduled to have surgery on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday after officers responded to the 1600 block of Northwest 16th Court after receiving reports of a possible residential burglary, Fort Lauderdale Police said.<\/p>\n<p>At the scene, officers created a perimeter and were being helped by the Broward Sheriff&#8217;s Office&#8217;s aviation unit.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect then fled the scene, and officers sent Appie to stop him.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/42026-Appie-Fort-Lauderdale-Police-K9.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\"Appie\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tFort Lauderdale PoliceFort Lauderdale Police<\/p>\n<p>Appie<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said the suspect pulled a gun and shot the dog in the shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>SWAT teams that were at the scene then moved in, and police said the suspect kept fighting, but was eventually arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Christian Bouie, and he was taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained after Appie bit him.<\/p>\n<p>At the scene, officers found a gun.<\/p>\n<p>Bouie is now facing several charges, including use of a deadly weapon on a police animal and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.<\/p>\n<p>Appie has been with the Fort Lauderdale Police since 2023 and is expected to survive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Fort Lauderdale police K-9 is recovering after being shot by a burglary suspect over the weekend.
