TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Leon County is lowering flags to half staff in honor of former Clerk of Courts Dave Lang, who died Sunday after a battle with cancer.<\/p>\n
Leon Commissioner Chair Christian Caban announced Monday that flags will be at half-staff for the next five days. <\/p>\n
Lang served in the Clerk of Courts office for more than 40 years. He first began working for Leon County in 1959 and served as deputy clerk for many years before being elected Leon County Clerk of Courts in 1992. <\/p>\n
He is perhaps best known for helping to navigate Florida\u2019s capital county through the tumultuous 2000 election with its many recounts and court challenges. <\/p>\n
Lang retired in 2001.<\/p>\n
\u201cDave Lang devoted more than four decades of his life to public service in Leon County, and his legacy is embedded in the institutions that still serve our residents today,\u201d Caban said. <\/p>\n

The City of Tallahassee recently renamed a section of Jefferson Street<\/a> to honor Lang\u2019s 40 years of service.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s wonderful,\u201d Lang said at the renaming ceremony last month. \u201cTo me, it could not be better.
