Some of the best weather in the event’s 26-year history filled Tallahassee’s Chain of Parks Art Festival with weekend visitors. More than 150 participating artists were showing and selling their work.<\/p>\n
There was music, food and drink, a super-sized puppet parade and a children’s village. And the amazing artists included Monticello’s Alice Cappa. She’s mastered the ancient process of spinning, weaving and dyeing the raw material for her fiber art.<\/p>\n
“I use all natural fibers and they’re comfortable, they’re wearable, they last. And I have a couple of pieces here that are over 40 years old.”<\/p>\n
Mark Georgiades creates intricate welded steel sculptures in his small Havana, Florida workshop. Taking part in the festival meant thousands of people were seeing his creations.<\/p>\n
“It means everything to me! This is really the only show I do and I prepare for it most of the year. I don’t have a lot of pieces, a lot of inventory because this is a hobby. But I get to see all my friends, get to meet new people and get to meet some of the other artists.”<\/p>\n
For Tallahassee painter Anne Hempel, the event was as much a social as an artistic occasion.<\/p>\n
“I mean I paint what’s in my heart and what I see outside that inspires me. And to be able to have people – the Tallahassee community – come out and appreciate it, is like a warm hug.”<\/p>\n
