The city of Cape Coral\u2019s municipal school system will likely not be expanding anytime soon.<\/p>\n
The Oasis Charter School Growth and Expansion Committee has reached a unanimous consensus: Stay with the status quo for the time being.<\/p>\n
A formal presentation will be given to the Oasis Charter Schools governing board in May.<\/p>\n
The committee was formed to address student enrollment and the popular municipal school system\u2019s wait list.<\/p>\n
The committee looked at various options for the four-school system \u2013 including a hybrid of virtual models, Schools of Hope and a reduction in enrollment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Superintendent Jacquelin Collins said after doing some research their approach will be to slowly reduce enrollment at the middle school and high school over time.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t require a budget change, or cutting teachers,\u201d Collins said. \u201cLet\u2019s be cautious. There is no rush or hurry to expand at this point in time, and we would like to take that approach.\u201d<\/p>\n
The system has a lot on its plate right now, one of which is their new sports complex, both affording, and maintaining the facility, she added.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet us make our formalized presentation and then decide how to proceed,\u201d Collins said. \u201cThe city is struggling to balance their budget moving into the next fiscal year. There\u2019s a lot going on in the state of Florida that we need to be mindful of.\u201d<\/p>\n
