JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 On April 1, 2023, 16-year-old Makye Vogel went to a birthday party at an apartment complex on Jacksonville\u2019s Southside. <\/p>\n

He never came back home.<\/p>\n

Vogel, who was just days away from turning 17, was shot and killed after stepping outside to answer a phone call.<\/p>\n

To this day, the person responsible for his murder has not been arrested.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why Project: Cold Case<\/a>, a Jacksonville-based organization, is bringing awareness to Vogel\u2019s case, hoping to bring justice to his family while honoring his legacy.<\/p>\n

News4JAX spoke with Vogel\u2019s mother two days after his murder, and said he dreamed of playing professional basketball but also planned to pursue becoming a chiropractor as a backup plan.<\/p>\n

His mom, Heather, remembers one special night when she dragged Kye and his siblings to Disney on Ice.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching Kye, Jai, and their friend Jerry was so funny\u2014I think they had more fun than Amir! Aniessa and I couldn\u2019t stop laughing. It was such an amazing night, one I\u2019ll never forget,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Apart from basketball, Vogel also loved chicken curry, Hot Cheetos, lemonade, his Oma\u2019s mac and cheese, and homemade cookies.<\/p>\n

More than two years after his murder, his loved ones \u2014 and the whole community \u2014 are still seeking answers.<\/p>\n

Vogel would\u2019ve turned 17 on April 11, 2023 \u2014 10 days after his murder. His family and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil. Many wore red and black, his favorite colors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to let him be forgotten. He will not be forgotten,\u201d Heather said.<\/p>\n
