POMPANO BEACH, Fla. \u2014 A meeting was held in the Palm Aire community of Pompano Beach on Tuesday night to discuss a developer\u2019s plans for expansion.<\/p>\n
Commissioners are getting pushback from residents on those plans. <\/p>\n
There was a notary on hand, taking paperwork signed by residents one-by-one, giving them what may be the best fighting tools yet for people living there. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe do hope the judge will be looking at these affidavits,\u201d said resident Carl Kuveri. \u201cWe\u2019re not all dead, we\u2019re alive. We\u2019ve paid top dollar for our condos. We didn\u2019t inherit them, so we\u2019re trying to protect what is ours.\u201d<\/p>\n
That protection, in place since 1985, has been a longstanding covenant that runs with the land.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a standing legal agreement with a density cap that limits the number of units at Palm Aire to its current 10,000-plus units.<\/p>\n
But a company that has since purchased the property has been pushing to build more condos and apartments.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd yet they have their developing arm right out front and now they are trying to chip away and they\u2019re working with the city, saying that this agreement is something old and that they\u2019re entitled to build something new,\u201d said resident Anne Bosworth. <\/p>\n
Longtime residents appreciate the open greenspace that gives Palm Aire its tranquil vibe, with three golf courses, parks and an open trail to match.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am very concerned about the possibility of continuous real estate development that I believe will impair the property values of the unit owners,\u201d said resident Norman Arnoff. <\/p>\n
Tuesday night\u2019s meeting aimed at drawing support for a class action suit to move forward and updating a weary community about what\u2019s at stake. <\/p>\n
