The Florida Forest Service has already responded to more than 1,600 wildfires in the first three months of 2026.<\/p>\n
FLORIDA, USA \u2014 Florida is seeing some of the worst drought conditions in years<\/a> as the month of April marks the peak of wildfire season.<\/p>\n Fire officials believe conditions could make this year one of the worst seasons in more than a decade, as the Florida Forest Service (FFS) has already responded to more than 1,600 wildfires in the first three months of 2026.<\/p>\n For perspective, that\u2019s more than half of what crews typically see in an entire year, which averages around 2,400 to 2,500 fires.<\/p>\n As of Wednesday afternoon, FFS is reporting dozens of active wildfires across the state, mostly in Florida’s northern counties.<\/p>\n The Tampa Bay area is less active, with a handful of fires reported in Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.<\/p>\n To keep yourself aware of any dangerous conditions in your area, here’s a map of wildfires reported, active, contained and controlled across Florida.<\/p>\n
