TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The City of Tallahassee unveiled its first-ever electric charging station on Wednesday. <\/p>\n
City leaders cut the ribbon as part of Earth Day celebrations. The new stations sit on South Adams Street right along the Cascades Trail. Officials say it is part of a bigger investment to create more clean energy stations throughout Tallahassee. <\/p>\n

City manager Reese Goad said 42% of the city\u2019s Star Metro buses are already battery-electric, and nearly half of the city\u2019s \u201clight-duty\u201d cars are already electric or hybrid.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s strategically located so that you can walk the trail, cross over to Cascades Park, you can go down FAMU way, you can go next door to the coffee shop. This is what we believe the future of refueling your vehicle will be, and you\u2019ll see more of that to come as our strategy is rolled out,\u201d Goad said. <\/p>\n
The new stations can charge up to four cars at once, and city leaders say it takes only about 20 minutes to reach full charge.<\/p>\n
