ST. Petersburg \u2014 St. Petersburg Police detectives have filed additional child abuse charges against two suspects already arrested in connection with the death of a one-month-old child.<\/p>\n
Gabriella Daniels, 22, and Ashton Kurant, 21, are now facing new charges related to the abuse of a second child in their care.<\/p>\n

According to investigators, the additional charges include:<\/p>\n
Aggravated Child Abuse (unlawful caging)<\/p>\n
Neglect (environmental hazards)<\/p>\n
The new allegations involve a 15-month-old girl who was also under the couple\u2019s care. Detectives say the child suffered significant diaper rashes and sores on her legs and feet after being kept in a playpen for extended periods. Authorities reported the home was in unsanitary condition, with the child\u2019s mattress soaked in urine and containing live insects.<\/p>\n
Police say the child has since been removed from the home and is now receiving care in a safe environment.<\/p>\n
Daniels and Kurant were initially arrested on April 16, 2026, on charges of Aggravated Child Abuse and Child Neglect related to a one-month-old boy. The infant was transported to a hospital for treatment last week, where he later died.<\/p>\n
During the investigation, detectives determined the infant had bruising along his hairline and multiple lacerations across his body.<\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
