{"id":244045,"date":"2026-04-24T00:25:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T00:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/244045\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T00:25:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T00:25:09","slug":"in-chaotic-times-graham-nash-will-bring-peace-and-classic-harmonies-to-fort-lauderdale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/244045\/","title":{"rendered":"In \u2018chaotic\u2019 times, Graham Nash will bring peace and classic harmonies to Fort Lauderdale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Yes, Graham Nash is angered by a lot of what is happening in America, a country he sees still held hostage by the prejudices and political violence that more than 50 years ago encouraged memorably powerful protest music from <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2017\/02\/08\/darkness-and-light-with-david-crosby-on-miami-beach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:David Crosby;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">David Crosby<\/a>, Stephen Stills, Nash and Neil Young.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On his current tour, which stops at The Parker in Fort Lauderdale for concerts on April 28-29, Nash has been opening with his 1971 single \u201cChicago,\u201d with its melodic call to \u201crearrange the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But Nash understands that during his swing through Florida \u2014 he\u2019s also playing in <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/grahamnash.com\/tour-dates\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Clearwater, Key West and Ponte Vedra Beach;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Clearwater, Key West and Ponte Vedra Beach<\/a> \u2014 he will be performing for a well-informed choir that does not need to be preached to. So he plans to provide a haven from all the noise. Mostly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt\u2019s a crazy world. It is, politically, and particularly with climate change, incredibly chaotic. But I think, if they come to see me, that they\u2019ll experience a couple of hours of relative peace. Even though I do talk, you know, quite pointedly about things,\u201d Nash says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">At 84, his distinctively sweet tenor \u2014 which earned him separate inductions to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with The Hollies and Crosby, Stills &amp; Nash \u2014 remains sublime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Nash\u2019s most recent album, 2023\u2019s critically praised \u201cNow,\u201d was seven pandemic-interrupted years in gestation, following \u201cThis Path Tonight\u201d in 2016. The collection balances the rocking anti-MAGA protest of \u201cStand Up\u201d with quieter songs of confessional reflection. They include several heart-on-sleeve odes for his third wife, artist Amy Grantham, whom he married in 2019 and lives with on New York\u2019s Lower East Side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI\u2019ve been meditating for five years now, and I\u2019ve really begun to realize that I\u2019m not fake, that I\u2019m a decent person, you know? I didn\u2019t really believe that I could fall in love again. And then Amy Grantham came along and bowled me over,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But it is the inspiration of past relationships that defines his new tour, offering a survey of some of the most vital music made in a tumultuous, roughly 10-year span beginning in the late 1960s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Backed by a three-piece band, recent set lists have featured Crosby, Stills &amp; Nash classics \u201cMarrakesh Express,\u201d \u201cJust a Song Before I Go\u201d and \u201cSuite: Judy Blue Eyes\u201d; songs recorded after Neil Young joined the band, including \u201cTeach Your Children,\u201d \u201cOur House\u201d and \u201cFind the Cost of Freedom\u201d; and Nash solo hits such as \u201cMilitary Madness\u201d and \u201cBetter Days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Then there is the music that weaves the harmonies of Nash and his \u201cbest friend,\u201d Crosby, to such celestial heights. If The Parker audience is lucky, Nash will share the elegiac Crosby collaboration \u201c<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xflRUVdcc0s\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:To the Last Whale \u2026 Critical Mass\/Wind on the Water;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">To the Last Whale \u2026 Critical Mass\/Wind on the Water<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Nash says trust was the critical element that allowed him and Crosby to achieve such a seamless vocal rapport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cDavid and I had a certain ability and a certain blend and a certain enjoyment about pushing music as far as it could go in our world. I know that wherever I wanted to go, David would enhance that. Wherever he wanted to go, my contribution would enhance that, too, particularly in \u2018Critical Mass.\u2019 You know, we didn\u2019t work out. Our harmonies became incredibly natural to us both,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>Related Articles<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Crosby died in 2023 at age 81, just as he and Nash were mending their friendship after a yearslong feud. Nash says that, shortly before his death, Crosby called from California and left a contrite voicemail message, saying he wanted to apologize. They agreed to get together on a Facetime call.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI waited and waited for the call, but it never came. And then two days later, he was gone,\u201d Nash says. \u201cI think about David always. He\u2019s in my prayers every single night. I will miss him terribly for the rest of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Crosby-Nash partnership also is represented on the new tour by \u201cImmigration Man\u201d and \u201cFieldworker,\u201d titles that may suggest they were torn from today\u2019s headlines, but were written decades ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">To his dismay, Nash describes these two songs \u2014 along with \u201cMilitary Madness,\u201d \u201cChicago\u201d and \u201cTeach Your Children\u201d \u2014 as \u201cincredibly relevant today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A native of England who became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1978, Nash is pleased that he is still able to perform music to his standards and that audiences seem to value the shows. He points out that he\u2019s the only game in town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIf people want to hear any of those songs, they\u2019re certainly not going to hear any CSN stuff from Neil. Stephen has stopped touring. David passed away. So to hear any of that stuff, you\u2019ve got to come and see me,\u201d Nash says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But he is conflicted about it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI\u2019m very honored that my music has lasted so long, and at the same time, I\u2019m totally pissed off that we haven\u2019t learned from history,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Graham Nash will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, and Wednesday, April 29, at The Parker, 707 NE Eighth St., Fort Lauderdale.
