JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WAND) – There will be no class Friday for Jacksonville Middle School due to an active crime scene near the school.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jacksonville police told WAND News they were called out for an incident in a neighborhood behind the school at 1:30 a.m. Illinois State Police SWAT has been called in to help.<\/p>\n
The Jacksonville School District shared with WAND that police are involved in a standoff with a barricaded person in a neighborhood near the school.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The school district said they were advised not to start school at JMS this morning. This only applies to Jacksonville Middle School.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police said the situation is dangerous and may continue into the school day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police asked everyone to avoid the entire area including Hoagland Blvd., Park St., Daly Dr. and surrounding streets.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The school district said they were told by police it is safe for Washington Elementary to remain in session.<\/p>\n
If you live near the affected area and do not feel comfortable allowing your student to leave your home, the district said to contact your school to report your child’s absence, which will be excused under these circumstances.<\/p>\n

JHS students who are usually picked up at JMS will instead be picked up in front of Washington Elementary at the corner of Fayette and Anna Streets.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
There will be no bus transfers at JMS this morning.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bus drivers will transport students directly to their respective schools. As a result, some students may be dropped off later than usual.<\/p>\n
