UCF professor Dr. Wei Sun, UCF Associate Vice President of Partnerships, Michael Harding and UCF PhD student Michael Wakim discuss the new lab.\u00a0This package was aired on the April 17 newscast and was anchored by John Warner and Luis Perez.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sabrina Hansen&#13;<br \/>\n                    &#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph SCXW63397954 BCX0\">Siemens\u00a0Energy, a multinational energy company and Pegasus\u00a0Partner of UCF,\u00a0opened\u00a0a new facility in\u00a0Research Park on April 13 to use artificial intelligence to improve electrical grids.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph SCXW63397954 BCX0\">The new 6,000-square-foot Grid AI Lab was part of a $1-billion investment by Siemens Energy in the United States, with the goal of \u201ctransforming how electrical grids are managed,\u201d\u00a0according to <a href=\"https:\/\/transformers-magazine.com\/tm-news\/siemens-energy-launches-ai-lab-in-orlando\/#:~:text=USA%2C%20Florida%2C%20Orlando:%20Siemens,test%20and%20scale%20new%20technologies.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Transformer&#8217;s Magazine<\/a>. Siemens Energy is opening a new AI grid lab that will offer protection against extreme weather and security breaches for UCF power grids.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>                                    Emilie Gilbert<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph SCXW63397954 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cSo, AI\u00a0is first using the data.\u00a0You look at\u00a0what\u00a0already\u00a0happened in\u00a0history, so, you can use the data to\u00a0do\u00a0the\u00a0prediction. That&#8217;s\u00a0one of the\u00a0most\u00a0popular applications of predictive analysis to see is there something\u00a0potential that\u00a0will happen\u00a0and based on a historical pattern,\u201d Sun said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph SCXW63397954 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Sun also said that it\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0the only way in which the\u00a0technology\u00a0was working to improve the grid.
