{"id":244792,"date":"2026-04-24T14:20:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T14:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/244792\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T14:20:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T14:20:07","slug":"what-to-know-before-you-go-unf-commencement-tips-for-graduates-and-guests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/244792\/","title":{"rendered":"What to know before you go: UNF commencement tips for graduates and guests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the University of North Florida\u2019s graduation approaching, UNF commencement requires graduates to follow set check-in times, dress guidelines, parking rules and safety procedures.<\/p>\n<p>UNF\u2019s Spring 2026 commencement will be held on May 1 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.unf.edu\/#ctdl-UMAP_2015102386483,BLD_2013042379098\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UNF Arena <\/a>(Building 34) for both undergraduate and graduate students. According to the UNF website, all tickets have been issued, and all ceremonies are at capacity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Assembly, arrival, and parking\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Graduates must check in 90 minutes prior to their ceremony start time at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unf.edu\/recwell\/fieldhouse\/index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Field House\u2019s<\/a> (building 26) front entrance. According to the UNF <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unf.edu\/commencement\/ceremony.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">commencement<\/a> page, graduates must check in with staff to receive their name card and line up with their college.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Graduates must also have their name card information verified. Corrections can be made at the on-site help desk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Free parking is available in <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.unf.edu\/#ctdl-UMAP_2015102386483\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lot 18<\/a> with ADA-compliant shuttles to the Arena. According to the Director of Parking and Transportation Services, Salena Laws, signage will show attendees where Lot 18 is located.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cADA attendees follow signage to the <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.unf.edu\/#ctdl-UMAP_2015102386483,BLD_2013042335793\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Arena [Parking] Garage,\u201d<\/a> said Laws. As for shuttles, Law said there will be three commencement-specific shuttles during the ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Osprey Connector will run the same schedule,\u201d Laws said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Graduates must arrive early for check-in. After the procession begins, those who arrive later cannot join their group.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Time\u00a0<br \/>\n9 a.m. undergraduate ceremony\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 9 a.m. undergraduate ceremony is for graduates from the Brooks College of Health, the Coggin College of Business, and the College of Computing, Engineering, and Construction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>12:30 p.m. undergraduate ceremony\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 12:30 p.m. ceremony is for graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences and the Silverfield College of Education and Human Services.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>4:30 p.m. Graduate ceremony\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those graduating with master\u2019s and doctoral degrees from all colleges will attend the 4:30 p.m. ceremony.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Photos and conduct\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the UNF <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unf.edu\/commencement\/photography-and-video.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>, the university has a contract with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flashphotography.com\/contact\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Flash Photography<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/unf.stageclip.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">StageClip<\/a> to take individual graduate photos and videos of stage crossings. <\/p>\n<p>Graduates will receive a name card upon check-in at the Field House. Graduates can get an email with photo proofs after the ceremony by filling out the information on the back of the card.<\/p>\n<p>Guests may take photos only from their seats or designated upper-level locations, according to the guest page. However, standing along the second-level walkway is prohibited for safety and to ensure clear views for all guests.<\/p>\n<p>Accessibility<\/p>\n<p>At the graduation ceremonies, Deaf and hard-of-hearing guests can sit in a designated section with ASL interpretation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lavon McGee, a receptionist at UNF\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unf.edu\/sac\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Student Accessibility Center,<\/a> said the university provides direct support for students with visual impairments during commencement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor blind students, we do send staff that can assist them to their seat and cross the stage,\u201d McGee said.<\/p>\n<p>Guests with limited mobility should notify an usher about ADA seating or wheelchair spaces available on the lower floor, as noted on the accessibility page.<\/p>\n<p>Breathe<\/p>\n<p>UNF Senior Izaiah Tabor had encouraging words for those who might be nervous or excited about their commencement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou made it this far and accomplished so much,\u201d said Tabor. \u201cIt\u2019s your moment now.
