Republic National Distributing Co., a Texas-based alcohol distributor, filed a notice saying it is closing its Jacksonville facility as it sells off some assets, affecting 169 jobs in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n
The notice filed April 23 under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act said the buyer, Reyes Holdings, plans to offer employment to some of the workers but the Illinois-based company does not have any facilities in the Jacksonville area, according to its website.<\/p>\n
Republic said employees not accepting or receiving offers from Reyes will be terminated within 14 days of June 21.<\/p>\n
Republic has operations in 38 states and has been distributing alcohol products since 1942, according to its website.<\/p>\n
The company in January announced an agreement with lenders to secure additional capital.<\/p>\n
However, the WARN notice said Republic has been exploring various strategic alternatives, including a potential sale of operations in certain markets.<\/p>\n
Reyes agreed to buy assets in Florida and nine other states and Washington, D.C., it said.<\/p>\n
Besides the Jacksonville facility at 923 North Main St., Reyes also is buying the operations of Republic facilities in Deerfield Beach, Pensacola and Tampa, affecting a total of 1,046 Florida employees.<\/p>\n
Reyes\u2019 only Florida operations are in Orlando and Southeast Florida.<\/p>\n
