{"id":245341,"date":"2026-04-24T21:36:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T21:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/245341\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T21:36:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T21:36:09","slug":"redhawks-grab-12-5-win-over-cmu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/245341\/","title":{"rendered":"RedHawks Grab 12-5 Win Over CMU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OXFORD, Ohio \u2013 The Miami University baseball team routed Central Michigan Friday, winning 12-5 after <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/zac-sohosky\/10889\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10889\" target=\"_blank\">Zac Sohosky<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/austin-berggren\/10863\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10863\" target=\"_blank\">Austin Berggren<\/a> combined for 13 strikeouts. <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/diego-cruz\/10886\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10886\" target=\"_blank\">Diego Cruz<\/a> hit the RedHawks&#8217; lone home run of the day, a two-run blast during the eighth to put the game away. Miami improves to 27-13 (15-7 MAC) with the win while Central Michigan falls to 18-21 (9-13 MAC).<\/p>\n<p>HOW IT HAPPENED&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tCentral struck first, scoring one run off two hits in the top of the second.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe RedHawks answered with three runs in the bottom of the second. Miami loaded the bases with a walk, an HBP, and a single by Christopher Roa. <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/evan-appelwick\/10861\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10861\" target=\"_blank\">Evan Appelwick<\/a> walked to tie the game, and <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/tommy-harrison\/10869\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10869\" target=\"_blank\">Tommy Harrison<\/a> hit a two-RBI single to give Miami a 3-1 lead.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSohosky threw a three-strikeout inning in the top of the third, bringing him to six strikeouts on the day.&#13;<br \/>\n\tCentral added one run in the fourth after Miami made two errors.&#13;<br \/>\n\tMiami made it a 6-2 game in the bottom of the fourth. After two walks and an infield single by <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/marcus-dierks\/10888\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10888\" target=\"_blank\">Marcus Dierks<\/a> loaded the bases, Appelwick grounded out to force in one run. Harrison singled to drive in another and <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/ignacio-gonzalez\/10868\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10868\" target=\"_blank\">Ignacio Gonzalez<\/a> earned the inning&#8217;s final RBI with a single to right field that made it a four-run game.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSohosky had another one-two-three inning in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/dominic-krupinski\/10871\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10871\" target=\"_blank\">Dominic Krupinski<\/a> walked and Dierks singled, setting up Appelwick for a bases-clearing double. After another walk, a single by <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/ryan-novak\/10873\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10873\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Novak<\/a> made it a 9-2 advantage for Miami.&#13;<br \/>\n\tBack-to-back homers brought the Chippewas back within five runs, 9-4, in the top of the sixth.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSohosky saw three up, three down in the seventh, rounding out a seven-inning, seven-strikeout outing.&#13;<br \/>\n\tAfter loading the bases in the eighth, Central Michigan scored their final run of the day with an HBP. Berggren came in and pitched three strikeouts to end the inning.&#13;<br \/>\n\tGonzalez reached first on an error to start the eighth. Roa tripled to right field to add an insurance run for the RedHawks and Cruz pounded a two-run home run to round out a 12-run day at the plate for the RedHawks.&#13;<br \/>\n\tBerggren sent all three ninth-inning batters down on strikes to put an exclamation point on the 12-5 victory.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\nMIAMI GAME NOTES:<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tDierks went a perfect 5-for-5 and scored three runs.&#13;<br \/>\n\tHarrison went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.&#13;<br \/>\n\tRoa went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.&#13;<br \/>\n\tCruz had two runs, two RBIs, and a walk.&#13;<br \/>\n\tKrupinski had three runs and two walks.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSohosky pitched 7.0 innings, holding the Chippewas to five hits and three earned runs while striking out seven batters.&#13;<br \/>\n\tBerggren pitched 2.0 perfect innings, sending down all six batters faced with strikeouts.&#13;<br \/>\n\tBerggren and Sohosky combined for no walks.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe RedHawks left 11 on base and Central left six on base.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe RedHawks made three errors and Central made one error.&#13;<br \/>\n\tMiami outhit Central 13 to six.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\nUP NEXT:<br \/>\nThe RedHawks return to McKie Field Saturday, April 25 for game two of their three-game series against Central Michigan.
