{"id":245396,"date":"2026-04-24T22:23:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T22:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/245396\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T22:23:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T22:23:09","slug":"workers-comp-attorney-reacts-to-orlando-hotel-employee-dryer-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/245396\/","title":{"rendered":"Workers\u2019 comp attorney reacts to Orlando hotel employee dryer death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office identified the Hilton Orlando employee who died after Fire Rescue found him trapped under an industrial-sized dryer as 30-year-old Aurelius Katinde.Detectives believe his death was accidental, OCSO said in a Friday afternoon update.The federal agency OSHA confirmed to WESH 2 that its investigating what went wrong Thursday night at the hotel in Orlando\u2019s tourist district. &#8220;I have not seen a situation like this where, you know, someone would, would end up under a dryer, in a hotel setting,\u201d Attorney Hank Hornsby said. \u201cSomething doesn&#8217;t add up to me.&#8221;Hornsby is a Central Florida personal injury and workers\u2019 compensation attorney. \u201cThe employer has a responsibility to go ahead and report any fatalities on a job site like this to OSHA,\u201d Hornsby explained.Hornsby said OSHA will examine &#8220;the location, photographs taken, interviews taken, of potential witnesses, supervisors, other employees that might be aware of the situation.&#8221;WESH 2 requested on Friday but did not receive the sheriff\u2019s office incident report and any photos of the large dryer involved.&#8221;We are deeply saddened by the very unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday evening,\u201d a Hilton Orlando spokesperson said. \u201cWe extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected and remain committed to supporting them during this difficult time.&#8221;Investigators will try to recover any relevant video that shows what happened to Katinde. &#8220;All of these hotels and in a lot of the areas I would expect to have video surveillance,\u201d Hornsby said, \u201cand as a personal injury attorney and even workers\u2019 comp, I would want to make sure those recordings are preserved so that any evidence is not lost.&#8221;Hornsby also said inspecting the dryer itself will be part of the investigation. &#8220;Any kind of maintenance records, things like that, that might shed light on what occurred, and if there are any safety issues or safety violations,\u201d he said.OSHA said it has six months to complete the investigation.
