Highlights from Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan\u2019s media briefing late Friday night:<\/p>\n
\u25aa On new linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who was picked 43rd overall: \u201cThe tape speaks for itself. Instincts are second to none. He can play in space. He will be green dot guy, will call the defense in time. He will fit really well in the room with [Jordyn Brooks and Terrell Dotson].<\/p>\n
\u201cAnyone in the building who doesn\u2019t embrace competition shouldn\u2019t [be here]…. He\u2019s outgoing, a leader, leads through example. Very, very intelligent player. Can call the defense. He\u2019s a guy you want running the show. He\u2019s a very good person and has great intangibles. I can\u2019t say enough good things about him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u25aa On getting Louisville receiver Chris Bell at 94; he was a projected late first or second round pick before a torn ACL in November: \u201cWe were really excited to add him. He\u2019s healing up great. We expect him to help us this year. It\u2019s a longterm investment. The upside is high. The talent is high. We think we got a really good one.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u25aa On adding bigger players: \u201cWe\u2019ve been intentional making sure who we added has met the measurable requirements, but we want to make sure we\u2019re adding good players that have the measurables. It\u2019s important to me that this team looks a certain way and moves a certain way. I believe it\u2019s a big man\u2019s game. We want to build this team big, physical in all positions and have a size advantage.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u25aa On Texas Tech receiver Caleb Douglas, who was picked 75th overall: \u201cHe\u2019 a long, rangy body — has got some very good athleticism. For a tall long limbed receiver, he can drop his weight, has good athleticism and ball skills to adjust to the ball in the air. If you\u2019re going to try to knock him on something, he\u2019s got to get stronger. You could see at his Pro Day and workout that he\u2019s pretty sudden getting in and out of breaks as a long limbed athlete.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u25aa On drafting two receivers on Friday night: \u201cWe were intentional about making sure we got some pass catchers. We felt we had to get pass catchers in there.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u25aa On Ohio State tight end Will Kacmarek, who was selected 87th: \u201cHe\u2019s going to be a difference maker for us in the run game, which opens up so many doors for an offensive coordinator. He\u2019s elite as a blocker. He\u2019s a culture guy. He brings a physicality and toughness to his craft that I think is unmatched.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a subtly good wide receiver. He\u2019s very capable underneath the zone. He can stretch the seam. Has got a good body, good hands. His super power is in-line blocking.\u201d<\/p>\n
He will play tight end, H-back and fullback: \u201cI imagine we\u2019ll do a lot of that stuff with him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u25aa At least one player the Dolphins wanted was picked very shortly before one of Miami\u2019s picks.<\/p>\n
But \u201cI\u2019m thrilled how things turned out,\u201d Sullivan said. \u201cYou can\u2019t fall in love with players. You\u2019re not going to get everyone you want.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u25aa He said he kept reminding himself that \u201cyou can\u2019t fix it all in one weekend.\u201d He said \u201cI wish we had a chance to address the edge, but it didn\u2019t fall that way. It\u2019s OK. I have faith in Chop Robinson and the rest of that\u201d group.<\/p>\n
\u25aa With Miami holding seven picks on Saturday, Sullivan said \u201cif there\u2019s a player we there we covet, I\u2019m open to\u201d packaging picks \u201cto move up to get a better player.\u201d<\/p>\n
