A Broward County roofing company has been cited by the U.S. Department of Labor after one employee died and another was seriously injured in September.<\/p>\n
On Sept. 24, two workers with Max Home Services LLC, based in Weston, were installing tarp on the roof of a home when they slipped and fell over 20 feet into an empty pool, the Department of Labor said in a news release Friday. One of the workers died while the other was seriously injured.<\/p>\n
The men were working on the roof of a multi-story home in Weston in the 4100 block of Boston Court, according to news reports. One of the men was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital by helicopter, while the second was taken in an ambulance.<\/p>\n
The company, operating as Pasat Roofing and Solar Energy, was cited for allowing both employees to work at heights of more than 20 feet without personal fall protection.<\/p>\n
Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigators also found the company did not adequately train its employees to recognize fall hazards and did not use a hazard communication program for employees using hazardous chemicals, the news release said.<\/p>\n
The registered agent of the company did not respond to a voicemail seeking comment Friday.<\/p>\n
The Department of Labor cited the company with one willful and two serious violations and has proposed penalties of more than $170,000.<\/p>\n
