MEMPHIS, Tenn. \u2013 Redshirt junior outfielder Neely Taylor<\/a> logged her 100th career hit and freshman Avery Stutts<\/a> reached 100 innings pitched as the University of Memphis softball team fell Saturday to Florida Atlantic, 7-4.

\nMemphis (17-35, 5-18 American) was unable to produce both at the plate and in the field in crucial situations in a second-straight game where they had near-equal hits to Florida Atlantic (31-17, 12-11 American).
\n\u00a0
\nHOW IT HAPPENED<\/p>\n


\n\tAfter a 1-2-3 first inning from starter Avery Stutts<\/a>, a walk and hit-by-pitch in the bottom half set up Deana Cunningham<\/a> for a two-RBI double to put the Tigers up early.
\n
\n\t
\n\t\tCunningham was thrown out on the play after overrunning the bag at second, but it occurred after the second run scored.
\n\t
\n\t
\n\tCiara Gibson put Florida Atlantic on the board with an RBI double in the top of the second.
\n\t
\n\t\tThe run was unearned as the runner who scored reached on an error that also would’ve ended the inning.
\n\t
\n\t
\n\tMemphis pushed its lead back to two runs on an RBI single by Taylor Caton<\/a>.
\n\t
\n\t\tMemphis had two batters reach on consecutive bunt singles with one out.
\n\t\tJaila Mitchell<\/a> was thrown out on the play after attempting to score from an errant throw home.
\n\t
\n\t
\n\tThe Tiger defense helped Stutts out of a jam after allowing two singles by turning a 6-3 double play to end the top half of the third.

\n\t\tIt was Memphis’ 20th double play turned this season, the first time since 2022 that a Tigers defense has turned at least 20.
\n\t
\n\t
\n\tAfter Florida Atlantic turned to Ainsley Lambert in relief, Ariel Davis<\/a> and Faith Brown<\/a> drew back-to-back walks to start the inning, but Lambert struck out the next three Tiger hitters swinging.
\n\tMemphis got its fourth run of the inning on an RBI hit-by-pitch by Faith Brown<\/a>.
\n\t

\n\tA pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth by the Owls tied the game at four runs apiece.
\n\t
\n\t\tParis Brienesse<\/a> walked with two outs in the bottom of the fifth but was ruled out after leaving early from first on what was initially ruled a stolen base.
\n\t
\n\t
\n\tAnother two-out error committed by the Memphis defense spelled trouble in the top of the sixth, as Florida Atlantic scored three runs on a pair of singles.
\n\tAriel Davis<\/a> singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh, but Memphis’ next three batters went down by way of a groundout, popout and strikeout. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Tiger defense’s 20 double plays turned this season are the most since Memphis turned 23 in the 2022 season.
\n\tMemphis’ now 365 hits have surpassed last season’s total of 360 and currently is tied for the sixth-most by a Memphis offense in a season.
\n\tMemphis’ 42 hit-by-pitches are two shy of tying the single-season program record and are currently tied for the 25th-most in the nation and second-most most in the conference.
\n\t
\n\t\tThe conference’s leader is Florida Atlantic with 43 after being hit once in today’s game.
\n\t\t11 different players have been hit by a pitch, with three players being hit at least eight times.
\n\t
\n\t
\n\tMemphis’ 59 doubles are now the sixth-most in a season in program history.
\n\tMemphis has eclipsed the 200-RBI mark on the season, with its 203 being the seventh-most in single-season history for the program.
\n\tThe Tigers’ 570 total bases are now the fourth-most in program history and most since 2018.
\n\tAriel Davis<\/a> logged her second multi-hit game of the weekend, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice hit.

\n\t\tDavis becomes the first Tiger this season with 20 walks, a mark reached by three Tigers last season.

\n\tDeana Cunningham<\/a> went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBI.
\n\tTaylor Caton<\/a> picked up one hit and one RBI in the loss.
\n\tNeely Taylor<\/a> was 1-for-3 on the day with a walk and a run scored.
\n\t
\n\t\tWith a hit in today’s contest, Taylor has now reached exactly 100 hits in her collegiate career.

\n\tFaith Brown<\/a> was 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a hit-by-pitch.
\n\t
\n\t\tBrown has now matched last season’s RBI leader (Zoe Adebayo<\/a>) with her 37th of the season.
\n\t\tHer 37 RBI are now tied for the fourth-most in single-season history.
\n\t
\n\t
\n\tParis Brienesse<\/a> went 1-for-2 with a walk in the contest.
\n\tKayla Clement<\/a> picked up a hit and a run scored.
\n\t
\n\t\tClement now has three hits in five career games against Florida Atlantic.

\n\tJaila Mitchell<\/a> recorded a hit in her lone at-bat in the game. \u00a0
\n\tAvery Stutts<\/a> tossed her fifth complete game of the season in the loss, eclipsing 100 innings pitched in her freshman campaign.

\n\t\tStutts remains Memphis’ leader in ERA, wins, appearances, games started, saves, innings pitched and strikeouts.
