GREENVILLE, N.C. (April 26, 2026)\u00a0\u2013 University of South Florida baseball was swept in a three-game series up north at ECU. The Bulls (28-15, 7-11 American) lost Game 3 to the Pirates (28-16-1, 12-6 American) by a score of 12-2 in eight innings.
\n\u00a0
\nJackson Mirza<\/a> hit his first collegiate triple and earned an RBI with it. He would then score on a sacrifice fly, hit by Santiago Carriles<\/a>, as the Bulls continue to lead the nation in sacrifice flies. These runs would be scored on Saturday, but rain postponed the game until Sunday.
\n\u00a0
\nECU ran away with the game when action resumed Sunday afternoon. The Bulls scored no further runs, and the Pirates took the game via a 10-run rule in eight innings.

\nEthan Sutton<\/a> started the game on Saturday and was relieved by Edwin Alicea<\/a>, who came back out to resume the game on Sunday. Lawson Gailey<\/a>, Nolan Bernard<\/a>, and Jonah Sarabia<\/a> also made appearances.

\n\u2022 Lance Trippel<\/a> extended his reached-base streak to 26 games.
\n\u2022 Jackson Mirza<\/a> hit his first collegiate triple.

\nThe Bulls stay on the road but return to the state of Florida next week. South Florida will face the eighth-ranked Florida State squad on Wednesday, April 29th. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m., and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Head coach Mitch Hannahs<\/a> returns for his second year at the helm after leading the Bulls to 32 wins in his debut season\u2014the program’s highest win total since 2018. USF also posted 16 victories in American Athletic Conference play, marking its best conference showing since joining the league.

\nHannahs, a 2023 ABCA NCAA Division I Midwest Region Coach of the Year, was named USF’s eighth head coach on June 8, 2024, after an 11-year run at Indiana State where he tallied 355 wins, six conference titles, and five NCAA Regional appearances.

\nUSF has made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances, including a historic Super Regional berth in 2021. The Bulls have captured five conference tournament titles (three Sun Belt, one Metro, one American) and six regular season championships (three Sun Belt, two Metro, one C-USA).

\nThe program continues to develop top-tier talent with 134 MLB Draft picks all-time, including three selections in 2025. Notable alumni include two-time MLB All-Star and 2018 first-round draft pick Shane McClanahan. Bulls have earned All-America honors 12 times and Freshman All-America recognition 19 times.
