{"id":247699,"date":"2026-04-26T23:21:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T23:21:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/247699\/"},"modified":"2026-04-26T23:21:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T23:21:17","slug":"reigning-ciaa-womens-defensive-player-of-the-year-signs-with-florida-am","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/247699\/","title":{"rendered":"Reigning CIAA Women&#8217;s Defensive Player of the Year signs with Florida A&#038;M"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Florida A&amp;M women\u2019s basketball team\u2019s defense just got a huge boost from the transfer portal, fielding a commitment from the CIAA\u2019s top defender from the 2025-2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>Livingstone center Breasia Coit announced her commitment to the Rattlers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DXkf8Q6EUZE\/?igsh=NmsxaXh1MDY5MGF0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">in an Instagram post<\/a> captioned, \u201cIt\u2019s safe to say I found a new home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A native of Baltimore, Coit comes to Florida A&amp;M after playing her first two collegiate seasons at Livingstone, including this past season when she was named to the All-CIAA team and won the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p>The sophomore center led the conference in rebounding (12.3), while also averaging 13.1 points (7th in CIAA) and 2.0 blocks (6th in CIAA).<\/p>\n<p>She recorded 19 double-doubles, including in the Blue Bears\u2019 regular-season finale upset win over the eventual conference champion Winston-Salem State, finishing with 12 points, 21 rebounds, and six blocks.<\/p>\n<p>Coit helped lead Livingstone to its <a href=\"https:\/\/hbcusports.com\/2026\/02\/24\/ciaa-basketball-tournament-day-1-recap\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first win in a CIAA tournament game since 2022<\/a>, nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds, including eight offensive boards against Elizabeth City State.<\/p>\n<p>She joins a Florida A&amp;M that finished the 2026 season with a 9-22 overall record, including a 7-11 mark in SWAC competition.<\/p>\n<p>The Rattlers have not completed a season with an overall winning record since their 2015-2016 campaign in which they went 16-15.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Florida A&amp;M women\u2019s basketball team\u2019s defense just got a huge boost from the transfer portal, fielding a&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":247700,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16],"tags":[232,234,233],"class_list":["post-247699","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tallahassee","tag-tallahassee","tag-tallahassee-headlines","tag-tallahassee-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/247699","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=247699"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/247699\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/247700"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=247699"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=247699"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=247699"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
