THE LEE COUNTY COURTHOUSE AHEAD OF THE TRIAL FOR SIGN WHICH BEGINS TODAY. GOOD MORNING TO JACKIE. >> GOOD MORNING, LISA. TODAY, ALL EYES ARE ON WHAT HAPPENED THE NIGHT. 15 YEAR-OLD KAYLA BRING CONE. MILLER WAS KILLED 2 YEARS AGO. TODAY BEGINS THE TRIAL FOR HOMICIDE, ACCUSED OF KILLING CODY MILLER, CAPE CORAL. POLICE SAY DEADLY ENCOUNTER HAPPEN WHEN KAYLA WAS WALKING BACK FROM THE MOVIES WITH HER FRIENDS IN MARCH OF 2024. INVESTIGATORS SAY AN SUV APPROACHED A GROUP JUMPED OUT, ATTEMPTED TO ROB THEM AND THEN STARTED SHOOTING. AND IN THAT KAYLA WAS SHOT AND DIED FROM HER INJURIES. EVEN THOUGH INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE STEIN DID NOT PULL THE TRIGGER, THEY SAY HE WAS PART OF WHAT LED UP TO THE SHOOTING WITH NO OTHER ARRESTS MADE. THIS TRIAL COULD GIVE SOME CLARITY ON WHO PULLED THAT TRIGGER. ONE OF THE MOST CRITICAL MOMENTS COULD COME ONCE TIES CO DEFENDANT CHRISTOPHER HORN TAKES THE STAND. HE TOOK A PLEA DEAL LAST YEAR AND IS EXPECTED TO TESTIFY FOR THE STATE. HIS TESTIMONY COULD BE A TURNING POINT IN THIS CASE. GULF COAST NEWS SPOKE WITH KAYLA’S MOTHER FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST MONTH.
