More than 1,000 teenagers gathered at ICON Park Saturday evening for a planned \u201cteen takeover\u201d that led to multiple fights and arrests, according to the Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Sheriff John Mina said deputies knew about the gathering in advance through social media monitoring and had a command presence on scene. In total, 54 deputies responded.<\/p>\n
The sheriff\u2019s office said the juveniles\u2019 ages ranged from 13 to 16.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were aware in advance that this could happen, because we monitor social media as well,\u201d Mina said.<\/p>\n
Authorities say several fights broke out throughout the park, leading to nine arrests. Charges include battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, resisting without violence, and trespass after warning.<\/p>\n
Two deputies suffered minor injuries while breaking up fights.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne fell on her shoulder and one twisted an ankle,\u201d Mina said.<\/p>\n
Mina said the gathering was not tied to a promoter and instead spread organically among teenagers online.<\/p>\n
Deputies said they eventually cleared the park. Officials say they are already aware of another planned gathering on May 9 and will be prepared.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will have dozens and dozens of deputy sheriffs there,\u201d Mina said. \u201cWe will have transport vans ready to take you away in handcuffs if you break the law.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deputies in Orange County responded to a wild scene at Icon Park over the weekend.<\/p>\n
The Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office said deputies responded to a planned \u201ctakeover\u201d at Icon Park on Saturday evening, where more than 1,000 teenagers had gathered.<\/p>\n
Deputies said several fights broke out, leading to nine arrests and two deputies being hurt.<\/p>\n
Officials said the injured deputies were treated and released from a hospital.<\/p>\n
Investigators said they were made aware of the event that happened around 7:30 p.m. at the popular entertainment complex and attraction area on International Drive.<\/p>\n
Deputies said they responded in large numbers to the scene, broke up altercations, and assisted in directing the large crowd out of the area.<\/p>\n
Officials confirmed with Channel 9 that a total of nine arrests were made during the incident. <\/p>\n
