TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) \u2013 Students at Bond Elementary had a special lunch on Tuesday, eating the vegetables they grew from their own classrooms. <\/p>\n
Students were given a \u201cgrow kit\u201d in partnership with Sunrise Rotary and Legacy Greens Farm in Quincy to learn about healthy eating and growing your own produce. <\/p>\n
\u201cI never made microgreens at my house,\u201d said second-grade student Anjalic. \u201cThat was fun and some of them were spicy.\u201d <\/p>\n
The vegetables were grown in plastic containers, and the students were responsible for maintaining them during the past week. \u201cWhen it started to grow, we were so happy,\u201d Anjalic said. <\/p>\n

With help from volunteers Tuesday, kids were able to harvest their arugula, broccoli, cabbage and other greens to eat in a fresh wrap with meat and cheese. <\/p>\n
\u201cOver the past week, I think they\u2019ve just been able to witness the process and the importance and the excitement of seeing the growth, and now being able to harvest it and eat it,\u201d Melanie Quinton with Sunrise Rotary said. \u201cI think my favorite quote was \u2018This is better than a McDonald\u2019s wrap,\u2019 so that\u2019s progress.\u201d <\/p>\n
Quinton said they hope students will take the lesson of healthy eating and growing your own produce with them for years to come. <\/p>\n
\u201cOne week of just seeing a seed grow into something they actually got to taste, and like, I think is pretty awesome,\u201d Quinton said. \u201cI hope they can use it in many other ways in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
