To the editor:<\/p>\n
I do understand the need to publish a range of viewpoints but I think you know the letter from John Cataldi (April 17) would set my hair on fire, and I could not resist reacting. Fortunately the letter was brief.<\/p>\n
The writer accused the Democratic Party of being sufficiently Machiavellian\u00a0to manipulate the mainstream media \u201c\u2026to degrade and humiliate President Trump.\u201d Trump does that all by himself in his threatening irrational\u00a0expletive-festooned nocturnal submissions. The Democrats spread \u201c\u2026unsupported lies\u2026to get control of the White House\u2026[Democrats] deny our President is a humanitarian\u2026(whose) responsibility is to protect humanity.\u201d Well that is a novel, if grandiose, job description.<\/p>\n
The writer concludes by rating Trump\u2019s performance on par with Washington, Jefferson and Reagan, unlike \u201cDemocratic politicians who are only seeking reelection for their own benefit.\u201d Trump is the definitive exemplar of selfless public service combined with extreme modesty about his accomplishments. And he is a great decorator. <\/p>\n
He does share some things with Reagan: Trickle down economics, massive tax cuts in social services to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy, scandalous secret activities with foreign powers, and loss of mental capacity while in office.<\/p>\n
