Hillsborough County is holding\u202fa series of\u202fcommunity\u202fmeetings throughout the\u202fcounty over the next few weeks to\u202fhelp residents apply for assistance to repair their homes under Affordable Housing Services\u2019 Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f <\/p>\n

The first five of the eight\u202fcommunity\u202fmeetings were held in April, and the remaining three will be held in May. Hillsborough County Affordable Housing Services staff will be at each of the meetings to help residents complete and\u202fsubmit\u202ftheir application.\u202f\u202f <\/p>\n

The\u202fHillsborough County\u202fOwner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program<\/a>\u202fis designed to ensure low,\u202fvery\u202flow and\u202fmoderate-income\u202fHillsborough County\u202ffamilies\u202fhave the opportunity to\u202flive in safe, decent and sanitary\u202fhomes.\u202fThis is not a\u202fhome\u202fremodeling program but rather a program aimed at\u202fassisting\u202fthe community with immediate needs for rehabilitation due to the condition of the\u202fhome.\u202fThe countywide initiative\u202futilizes\u202fthe State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) program to rehabilitate the\u202fhomes\u202fof residents who live in unincorporated Hillsborough County, Plant City\u202fand\u202fTemple Terrace.\u202fThe City of Tampa has\u202fits\u202fown rehabilitation program.\u202f <\/p>\n

The program provides financial\u202fassistance\u202fto homeowners who cannot afford to bring their homes\u202finto compliance with the Florida Building Code or make other necessary repairs affecting life, health, safety\u202fand accessibility. There are income restrictions, and the program focuses on single-family\u202fhomes\u202fthat have been homesteaded as a primary residence for at least two years. <\/p>\n

Application forms\u202fwill be available at all the meetings and\u202fare\u202falso\u202favailable online at https:\/\/hcfl.gov\/oor<\/a>. Residents who cannot\u202fattend the meetings and do not have access to a computer can call 813-635-1810 to have an application mailed to them.\u202fThe meetings will be held on the following dates and times:\u202f\u202f <\/p>\n

Friday,\u202fMay 1,\u202f10 a.m.-2 p.m.,\u202fat Town \u2018N Country Library Community Room, located at 7606 Paula Dr. in Tampa.
\nThursday,\u202fMay 14,\u202f10 a.m.-2 p.m.,\u202fat Gardenville Recreation Center,\u202flocated at 6219 Symmes Rd. in Gibsonton.
\nWednesday,\u202fMay 20:\u202f10 a.m.-2 p.m.,\u202fat Balm Park and Community Center, located at 14747 Balm Wimauma Rd. in Wimauma.<\/p>\n

Eligible\u202ffunding\u202fmay be used for:\u202f\u202f <\/p>\n

Roof\u202frepair\u202for\u202freplacement.
\nFailure of electrical,\u202fplumbing or HVAC systems.
\nFailure of structural systems, such as floors and structural walls.
\nExterior\/interior\u202fdeterioration (walls, foundation, porches, siding, etc.).
\nWater\u202fheater replacement.
\nAccessibility improvement (ramp, widening doorways, countertops,\u202fbathroom\u202fand kitchen modifications, etc.).
\nLead-based\u202fpaint remediation or other environmental issues.
\nWeatherization activities (doors, windows, air-conditioning, roofs, insulation and energy-efficient appliances).<\/p>\n

Demolition-reconstruction may be offered\u202ffor\u202fhomes\u202fwhose\u202frepairs\u202fexceed 50 percent of the appraised value according to the property appraiser valuation. <\/p>\n
