The Miami Grand Prix, F1\u2019s first race since the extended break over the past five weeks, could be canceled or delayed due to thunderstorms expected at the track on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to AccuWeather, there is a 90% chance of rain on Sunday during race time, with a threat of thunderstorms developing.<\/p>\n

\u201cRain and thunderstorms could impact the race,\u201d the weather forecast outlet said.<\/p>\n

NBC South Florida\u2019s forecast does not say the day will be \u201cmostly sunny,\u201d with the turbulent weather coming on later.<\/p>\n

For modern F1 races, rain is no problem as wet-weather tires have been carefully developed throughout the years. However, lightning is a serious concern for any event, especially races.<\/p>\n

The problem with lightning is that the medical helicopter cannot fly above the track and provide emergency medical attention.<\/p>\n

Florida is humid year-round, though when rain does come, it tends to fall extremely hard. The rain could be hard enough to also cancel the race; however, F1\u2019s official website only lists \u201cpossible showers\u2019 rather than a serious downpour.<\/p>\n

\u201cRace day is expected to experience warm conditions. Temperatures will range from 22\u00b0C in the early hours to a peak of 28\u00b0C, with a track temperature of 37\u00b0C,\u201d F1\u2019s official website said. <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWinds will blow at an average of 10.4 km\/h, gusting up to 36 km\/h, and drivers should prepare for fluctuating conditions due to possible showers and changing wind speeds.\u201d<\/p>\n

When was the last F1 race?<\/p>\n

F1 has been put on the back burner due to the current war in Iran. Races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were canceled, with the last race taking place in Japan.<\/p>\n

Luckily, there will be a sprint race on Saturday, which feels like a double-header, as long as the weather holds up enough for the feature race to take place.<\/p>\n

The addditionally time off has served as a second summer break, essentially, with teams getting the chance to get their affairs in order and see where they can improve based on the start of the season.<\/p>\n
