{"id":251717,"date":"2026-04-29T23:01:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T23:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/251717\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T23:01:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T23:01:08","slug":"tallahassees-market-district-opens-maclay-commerce-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/251717\/","title":{"rendered":"Tallahassee&#8217;s Market District opens Maclay Commerce Drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After concerns over the loss of business and meetings with the city, the Market District in northeast Tallahassee has finally opened, getting done in record time.<\/p>\n<p>In a Facebook post, the district shared the news that residents can now travel along Maclay Commerce Drive from the roundabout all the way to Thomasville Road, going both east and westbound.<\/p>\n<p>The completion of the project marks the end of a period of worrying for local business owners who were bothered that the project was initially slated to take an entire year. Construction started in January 2025 and was originally planned to last two years.<\/p>\n<p>At their meeting on Feb. 18, city commissioners prompted city staff to urge the project contractor to begin work on March 1 on a roundabout at the intersection of Maclay Boulevard and Maclay Commerce Drive.<\/p>\n<p>There are still some finishing touches being made to the roundabout: &#8220;While some work will be ongoing \u2013 such as landscaping, decorative pavers and the final asphalt layer \u2013 the public has driving access,&#8221; a statement from the District says.<\/p>\n<p>Maclay Boulevard, however, remains closed from Maclay Commerce Drive to Mosswood Chase for the time being, but is expected to open in late summer.<\/p>\n<p>Arianna Otero is the trending and breaking news reporter for the Tallahassee Democrat.
