Wawa Inc. opened its northernmost Duval County location April 30, south of Jacksonville International Airport and River City Marketplace.<\/p>\n

The convenience store and gas station is at 12654 Pecan Park Road on land leased from the Jacksonville Aviation Authority near the Amazon fulfillment center.<\/p>\n

Michelle Strang was first in line for the opening, arriving at 6 a.m.<\/p>\n

Strang also was first in line at the Wawa at 7142 Commonwealth Ave. that opened Feb. 12, she said.<\/p>\n

A.T. Construction Management Inc. of Seminole was the contractor for the project, which includes a 6,119-square-foot store and a 6,090-square-foot fueling canopy. The total project cost was $1.08 million.<\/p>\n

Under the 20-year ground lease with JAA, rent starts at $60,000 annually for the first five years with scheduled increases. The lease also includes an optional extension for up to 40 years, including rent adjustments beginning in year 21.<\/p>\n

The location is the 27th of about 100 stores the Pennsylvania-based chain plans to open across 14 states in 2026, according to a news release.\u00a0<\/p>\n
