Broward deputies say they performed a PIT maneuver to stop a suspected carjacker who stole a BMW in Deerfield Beach; the suspect was taken for medical evaluation and faces charges.<\/p>\n

A carjacking suspect was caught by Broward deputies Thursday after he tried to speed away, but authorities used a PIT maneuver to spin out his car, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
Around 12:30 p.m., Antonio Dominguez, 31, stole a BMW from a Deerfield Beach gas station, 1227 West Hillsboro Boulevard, the Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n
Deputies quickly mobilized and called in a helicopter for support. It\u2019s unclear where, but authorities found Dominguez.<\/p>\n
The sheriff\u2019s office did not say if a pursuit ensued, but a deputy did perform a PIT maneuver on the BMW in the area of 3400 West Sunrise Boulevard, which is about 17 miles from where the car was stolen.<\/p>\n
In a PIT maneuver, or Precision Immobilization Technique, a deputy pushes a rear corner of a fleeing vehicle so that it will spin out of control and the chase will end.<\/p>\n
Dominguez was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital by Lauderhill Fire Rescue to be medically evaluated, deputies said. Criminal charges are pending, exactly what he will face hasn\u2019t been released.<\/p>\n
