Since returning to campus from the holiday break, the cable service\u00a0has been\u00a0cut off\u00a0for the whole campus, leaving the\u00a0J-school students\u00a0absent\u00a0of\u00a0their\u00a0daily news.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Typically,\u00a0the\u00a0televisions in the building help keep students informed by playing a variety of different news and informational channels throughout the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Felixia\u00a0Francios, a senior broadcast journalism student, noticed the televisions were off after returning from winter break.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI read the news on my own, but I usually see what\u2019s happening by also checking the TV in the hallway to brush up before my news quizzes,\u201d Francios said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Staff members also confirmed the change and said it has affected other areas of the building as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kayla M. Jefferson, coordinator of academic programs for academic advisement, said the televisions in office suites have also been\u00a0impacted.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere could be requests made by students up to the dean to get the cable back, potentially, but we also have not been able to watch the news on the TVs in the suites as well,\u201d Jefferson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to staff, several requests were made to restore the cable service. An announcement was made on the FAMU Task Management System after multiple reports about the outage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt wasn\u2019t the IT department that made the decision to cut the cable, and we are unaware of why or who made it,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Cynetria\u00a0C.\u00a0Burns,\u00a0a clerical and secretarial staff member in the IT Services department.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At this time, the department says the decision did not come from IT Services, and the reason behind the change remains unclear.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As of Monday March 23, the cable\u00a0in the School of\u00a0Journalism\u00a0and\u00a0Graphic\u00a0Communications has been\u00a0restored,\u00a0and students\u00a0are allowed\u00a0to\u00a0view\u00a0the news again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The back of a cable TV box.
